There are 16 universities in Sofia. The St.Clement of Ohrid University, founded in 1888, is the oldest and most important.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was finished only in 1912, even the Neobyzantine style makes it look historical. The temple has 12 bells with total weight of 23 tons.

In 1925, in a act of terrorism, a group of Bulgarian communists destroyed roof of St.Nedelya Church killing 150 people participating on funeral of an other terror victim.

Sofia has unique heat and power plant. 900 000 households are centrally heated using residual heat from electrical power plant. Distribition network consist of 900 km of pipes.

Four football clubs of Sofia have won 62 times the Bulgarian championship from the total of 83 seasons. CSKA Sofia is with 30 titles the most succesful team in Bulgarian football history.
